The United Arab Emirates is taking significant steps to integrate artificial intelligence into its educational and governmental frameworks. The UAE Cabinet has recently sanctioned the incorporation of an AI curriculum in all public and private schools across the nation. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the use of artificial intelligence in education and government operations. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of AI, covering essential topics such as data, algorithms, applications, potential risks, and ethical considerations. Additionally, the program aims to equip 22,000 teachers and educators with the skills necessary to incorporate AI into teaching methodologies, assessments, lesson planning, and curriculum design.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the importance of continuous learning for educators to prepare students to navigate a rapidly evolving future. In alignment with this educational initiative, the Cabinet has also green-lighted an AI advisory system intended to assist ministers in evaluating policies, legislation, and strategic government initiatives. This system employs 32 specialized AI assistants to analyze policy proposals, assess their potential impacts, review international practices, and provide informed recommendations that align with the UAE’s national priorities.
In a related move to bolster technological advancement, the Cabinet has approved regulations concerning autonomous vehicles. This framework aims to establish standardized procedures for testing, inspecting, registering, and licensing self-driving vehicles within the UAE, promoting cleaner transportation solutions and efforts to alleviate traffic congestion. These measures reflect the UAE’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in its transportation sector.
The government has also highlighted its progress in digital transformation, citing the completion of hundreds of millions of digital transactions through government services and the successful implementation of numerous digital transformation projects over the past year. This digital shift represents a significant leap forward in the UAE’s approach to streamlining government operations and enhancing service delivery.
Additionally, the Cabinet has approved a National Ecotourism Policy and reviewed the ongoing efforts under the National Strategy to Combat Desertification 2022–2030. These initiatives are focused on safeguarding ecosystems, rehabilitating land, and preserving native vegetation, further underscoring the UAE’s dedication to environmental sustainability and conservation.
