This comes after it emerged that a traveler, who had passed through the UAE, was later diagnosed with the virus upon reaching Uganda. The infected individual, identified as a Congolese national, traveled through the UAE en route to Uganda, where the Ebola diagnosis was confirmed days after their arrival.
Officials have clarified that during the individual’s time in the UAE, they did not visit any healthcare facilities, minimizing potential exposure to others. In response to the situation, the UAE health authorities are actively collaborating with the World Health Organization to implement a series of precautionary measures. These include conducting risk assessments, tracing contacts of the traveler, and enhancing health surveillance efforts in accordance with international health standards.
While the concern over the spread of Ebola is understandable, health authorities have highlighted that the outbreak is currently mostly contained within the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. The World Health Organization has assessed the overall global public health risk from this outbreak as low, indicating that the situation is being closely monitored and managed.
As an additional precaution, the UAE government has advised its citizens and residents to avoid any non-essential travel to regions affected by the outbreak, specifically the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. This advisory aims to prevent any potential spread of the virus and ensure the safety of those traveling.
Ebola is known to be a severe viral disease transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids from an infected person.
