Sharjah has unveiled a new logistics corridor with Oman, slashing cargo transit times from nearly 90 days to a mere 35 days. This innovative initiative aims to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce transportation expenses, and fortify trade connections between the UAE, Oman, and the broader regional markets. The corridor links Sharjah to Oman’s major ports, including Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah, by utilizing the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings. As operations progress, authorities anticipate further reductions in transit times.
To boost the corridor’s usage, Sharjah has introduced toll exemptions for cargo trucks traveling on approved routes from Oman. This incentive package also offers faster customs clearance, streamlined cargo movement, and the possibility for businesses to finalize customs procedures at inland container terminals instead of at border checkpoints. Officials project that logistics costs could drop by approximately 15%, depending on the type of cargo and specific transportation needs. Notably, manufacturers are expected to see significant benefits as the corridor accelerates the movement of both raw materials and finished goods.
This development aligns with Sharjah’s strategy to cement its status as a regional logistics and manufacturing powerhouse. With more than 3,000 factories contributing about a quarter of the emirate’s GDP, the enhanced trade route is poised to increase exports and draw international investors aiming to access markets in Africa, India, and Asia. The corridor, which became fully operational on May 14, facilitates seamless cargo movement in both directions and is supported by coordinated customs procedures, real-time data exchange, and dedicated fast-track shipment lanes.
As Sharjah continues to bolster its logistics infrastructure, the new corridor represents a significant step forward in regional trade dynamics.
