This evening’s unveiling of the 98th Academy Awards nominations by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman revealed a competitive field. “Sinners” and “One Battle After Another” led the competitive nominations across multiple categories.

The competitive nature of this year’s race reflects the high quality of nominated films. Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” earned recognition for directing, cinematography, production design, sound design, and acting. The comprehensive nominations demonstrate the film’s excellence across all aspects of production.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” proved equally competitive with nominations spanning major categories. The film’s adapted screenplay, directing, and ensemble performances all received acknowledgment. Technical achievements also earned recognition, solidifying its position as a serious contender.

The Best Picture category features ten competitive nominees. “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” and others bring unique strengths to the race. Performance categories showcased exceptional talent, with Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Stone, and others receiving recognition. Unfortunately, Neeraj Ghaywan’s “Homebound” received zero nominations.

The 98th Academy Awards take place on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony will air at 7 p.m. ET on ABC, where competitive nominees will battle for Oscar gold.
