The Zayed Sustainability Prize, representing the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to fostering global innovation, has achieved a milestone with 10,233 entries from 177 nations for its 2027 awards cycle. This marks a significant 32% rise in participation compared to the previous year, reflecting the increasing global interest in addressing critical challenges such as climate action, health, food, energy, and water, along with education at the high school level.
The prize, known for honoring pioneering solutions that tackle pressing global issues, offers substantial financial rewards. Each winner in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will receive $1 million, whereas the finalists are set to receive $150,000. In the category dedicated to global high schools, six winners will each be awarded $150,000, while those reaching the finalist stage will earn $25,000.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General, emphasized the significance of this record-breaking participation. He noted that it underscores a mounting global demand for practical and innovative solutions aimed at enhancing lives across the globe. Notably, a substantial portion of the applications originated from developing and emerging economies, with the climate action category attracting the highest number of entries.
As the competition progresses, the anticipation builds towards September when the finalists will be revealed. The culmination of this cycle will be the awards ceremony, scheduled for January 12, 2027, where the winners will be celebrated for their contributions to sustainable development.
