In a strategic move to boost its international aviation network, Thailand has forged new alliances with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, while also upgrading its regional airport systems. These developments are poised to enhance connectivity and bolster the country’s tourism sector.
Vietnam Airlines has introduced a new route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket, commencing on July 2. This route operates four times weekly, providing an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats. The launch is a response to the growing travel demand from Vietnam, which saw over 300,000 of its citizens visiting Thailand in the first six months of the year.
In a parallel initiative, flydubai has expanded its services with the launch of daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok starting July 1. This service is set to increase to twice daily from September 15, strengthening the ties between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand and enhancing travel options for passengers.
Additionally, Thailand is set to introduce the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports. This system aims to improve air traffic management and operational efficiency, as well as provide better access to secondary cities. Initially, AFIS will be implemented at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with potential expansion to other airports in the future.
